Give it a little more hustle
You begin to move down the hall a little faster.

You're still hesitant to move too quickly, since you don't yet know what could be jiggling the chains... or even what the chains are for.

You duck under and maneuver around chains, keeping your sword in front of you, hazarding the occasional glance back the way you came. The chains long behind you begin to sway, as well.

Kate stays silent, staying close to you but not too close.

You can see the exits--one to the south, headed upstairs, and one to the west, which circles back the long way toward the downstairs.

As you start to approach the last cocoon hanging between you and those doors, however

the bulbous shape suddenly swings toward you

and opens its mouth.

"FUCK!," Kate yells out as she goes tumbling backwards, narrowly avoiding the split jaws of the creature. You almost trip over your own feet (and a chain) stumbling backward yourself, the monster's jaws slamming shut inches from your face.

It continues to swing and snap at both of you.

You begin to try and maneuver to its left, but it swings left.

Kate starts to fly around to its right, but it swings right.

If you really squeezed yourself up to the wall as you passed, you're not sure it could swing far enough to reach you--but you're not sure.

"If we go at the same time--" you begin,

"Then it'll definitely get one of us," Kate interjects. "I'm faster. If I go first, I can distract it while you--"

"Are you fast enough for that?," you interject.

"Dunno," Kate replies. "Better odds than us both going at once."

You mull it over for a second, the monster's chainlink exterior loudly shaking as it thrashes and bites at the air.

"I could spike you past it," you suggest. "Worst case scenario, I don't really have volleyball powers and I accidentally clock you in the back of the head."

"No," Kate says bluntly, "worst case scenario you spike me right into that fucker's mouth."

"I have a right to know," says a voice quite clearly from down the hall behind you.

"Stab it in the mouth," Kate blurts out with a bit more urgency.

"If I don't kill it in one thrust, I'm basically feeding it my sword," you point out.

"Okay fine but we need to do something," says Kate, her attention bouncing between the giant chain thing trying to eat you and the tube creature now making its way down the hall behind you. "Just... fuck it, I'll try whatever."

Welp. Maybe throw a torch at it while trying to run past it?
6th May 2020, 3:51 PM
Feed it one of Kate's fireballs.
6th May 2020, 3:53 PM
She can only make the fireballs right around her hands; she can't shoot them. So if we fed it Kate's fireballs, we'd have to feed *Kate* to it.
6th May 2020, 3:55 PM
If there is a torch nearby, yeet it into the thing's mouth. If not, stab it right in the mouth.
6th May 2020, 3:56 PM
We could try spiking a torch into its mouth, maybe? Then, if that's successful, we can spike Kate past it and try to run by the other side while it's distracted.

Note to self: next time we play video games to gain powers, we should bring objects that might help us *use* those powers. It's kinda silly to have volleyball powers with no ball...

So I have mentioned this earlier, but I don't think it ever was confirmed or denied, so
Is there a something in Capedemon to prevent the captured demons from doing unpleasant things to their (for lack of a better word) trainer? If so, that might be preventing Kate from shooting fireballs.

Tl;dr: yell "Kate, use fireball!"

Just... Spike the sword into it's mouth.

It's heavy so just give it your best bit of oomph to keep it from falling immediately, since you cant really *toss* it, and slap the bottom of that handle.

Worst thing that can happen is your sword just kinda flops over and lands on the floor, which would suck but isn't *horrible*.

This situation isn't as dire as it seems. The Big Mouthy Chainbag isn't going anywhere, so we can turn and fight off the Bony Tube of Bastard from outside its reach. Plaire's got a Whole-Ass Sword, Kate can light it on fire with her hands, and the two can assist each other if one gets grabbed.

We'll still have to figure out how to deal with the Chain-Link Chomper (oh gods, it's a CHAIN CHOMP) afterward, but there's no need to fight both monsters at the same time.

I will +1 this suggestion as long as no new chain monsters appear on the scene.

Sac on one side, bone snake on the other. This would be a bad spot if we didn't have Kate. But we do...

1) ...and these things hate fire. We're currently out of range of all of the sacs, right? Assuming so, we can have Kate engage the bone snake, and once she's killed it, we can feed it to the chain sac as a distraction.

2) ...and this responds to both of us. If Kate flies back and forth in front of the sack, it should follow suit, at which point we should be able to run past, using the creature's inertia to hamper its actions. Then we can either try to do the same to let Kate come back (it should be easier now that we've flanked it), or she can fly back around the long way. Between her flying and fire, she should be able to get past everything while being stealthy.

Bonus) We can also try feeding some torches to the chain sack- test first with wadded up cash. We also don't want to use up all of the torches this way. While we're waiting for Kate, we can try chopping the hanging chains to get a feel for the sword. Maybe it will even do something to hurt the monster.

We should assume that the other sacks are the same sort of creature, just not awake yet, so going back is bad.

Wadded up cash... wait, we have that notebook from Bebe! Plaire can tear pages out of it, wad them up, and ignite and/or spike them!

Nice idea, give it a shot! +1

It reminds me of the uvulas from Lord Jabu-Jabu from Zelda: Ocarina of Time. So my vote it to spike kate, but instead of past it, slam her into the spot near the top where you would hit it with the boomerang.

I'm assuming there's some version of Zelda in this universe, so it might work. Just be ready to run past when it retracts in pain.

With the torch from behind Plair.

Perhaps if we had played Saga of Zelbo that would work; as is, I wouldn't chance it.
7th May 2020, 3:16 PM
Sorry but I'm gonna have to side with Pwzysk on this one and -1 this suggestion. We don't have Saga of Zelbo powers tonight and don't have any reason to believe that the chain monster has any such weakness.

The inside of its mouth looks fleshy (except for the teeth of course) so the sword should be able to do some damage. Instead of stabbing though, do a slicing action so that it would be harder for it to grab hold of the sword and take it from us. Aim for one of the corners of its mouth because those would be easier to reach, probably one of the lower corners so that we can do an overhand slice and use the sword's weight to our advantage. Hopefully it'll scream and recoil in pain and we can run past it, but if not we can also keep attacking the same spot and hacking away at it until we get an opening to get past it. And once we are past, maybe it will be polite enough to attack that tube monster for us.

Try playing VolleyKate in the next room if it's safe, it would be better to test that in a non-combat situation.

Let's name the bone monster?
7th May 2020, 2:57 AM
Feeding the chain monster might be the best bet. Either with a torch or just wait for that Right-To-Know and slay it so it can be fed to the chain monster.

I was going to suggest possibly trying to use the other chains around here to rope the chain monster or just get it to chomp on them as a distraction. But now that I think of it those other chains might be appendages or sensors that'll wake up OTHER chain monsters; and the situation isn't that dire yet to risk that.
