Update and assess

Update and assess
After a quick internet search, you figure out how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave. Over breakfast, you update your dream journal, detailing the new mechanics you figured out--including Anti-Plaire and the video game powers. You'd like to experiment with different games moving forward, as well as see if duplicate house keys (or just any key, in general) can unlock doors in the prison.

Hitting up the Back Room today seems like a solid plan, at least to see what they have to offer--though you'd also like to save a little energy for that concert you saw advertised tonight.

You also do a cursory internet search into the history of your house. This has to be happening for some reason, and while there's articles online about repetitive dreams or stress dreams, none of them are ... quite like what you've been experiencing. Something else is going on--if not with you personally, then with the house. The tube creatures repeating lines from your own memory suggests you're not completely a bystander to whatever the hell this is, but these nightmares didn't start until you moved away from Addersfield.

Looking online for the history of the house, however, turns up a big fat zero.

It is... kind of a small town up in the mountains. A bigger city you'd fully expect to have all their housing history and zoning and whatever else uploaded to a convenient internet database, but this town hardly exists online. Just searching the town by itself only turns up a handful of results, mostly from the (fairly unexciting) local news station.

Alas, you fear that a more thorough search into this house's deal might require extra steps. The local library may keep up with that kind of information, or at least be able to point you in the right direction. Plus, they may know other things about the town--things that could elude even the bus network.

You lean back in your seat and just... sit for a minute.

You don't feel any more exhausted than you should, but you do feel... stripped? Lessened? You feel like last night took something more out of you than it did the first night this happened, though you can't figure out what. You're also pretty sure you've never felt this before. You're just... drained, in some weird and intangible way.

You do feel a little better after eating.

Now you just need to take the next step.

Keys? Games? House? You have a lot of questions, but limited time (and energy) (and money) to get answers with.

Hmmm... Are there any decorations in boxes still?
Touching the new place up to actually feel more like home might help with stress a bit.

Very agreed! Also, we might be able to test if the house is linked to the dream alcazar by making changes to the house and seeing if that does anything to the dreams. Perhaps looking into feng shui or other traditional methods of warding your house against evil (for example, horseshoes against evil fey, nets to protect from vampires) might have some kind of effect on the dream house. Feng shui at least can be done with stuff you already own as long as it has a color or shape that can be associated with an element, sacred animal (Captemon merch might fulfill this requirement!) or is just generally auspicious; and we might be able to acquire some super-cheap feng shui stuff because, well, it IS made in China.

+1 cause this is just hilarious

Were we expecting payment for last night's Mustachio video to arrive in the mail today? Maybe see how much it is.
...And if the payment is sent by check, we might need to ask the Bus AI where the nearest bank is, so that we can cash it in.

Also, a library does sound like a good way to get clues... without requiring money, or very much energy.

You can often cash checks via phone app, so we should be able to-- oh shit we don't have a phone...

Maybe we should look into saving up that money for getting a cheap but serviceable smart phone. For now, bank (if we have a check) and library sounds like a good plan. Then we can assess our energy levels and see if we can go to the game store or if we should save up our spoons for going to the concert tonight.

Library first, information is key and libraries are usually free institutions from what I recall... well I don't recall having to pay for anything other than late fees at least.

Hopefully the capitalist nightmare that is Possibly-Future-America still has free libraries... Maybe they're at least non-profits, in which case we'd probably qualify for free services based on our low income.

+1, let’s go to the Back Room afterward.
23rd Dec 2019, 10:28 PM
+1, but digital information searching might help too.
24th Dec 2019, 6:42 PM
we just did a digital search.

Going to the library to do some research about Plaire's house and the town during the day might help to preserve some energy for the concert later on.
23rd Dec 2019, 7:35 PM
+1. Keep it simple, no games store today. We're going to see a concert tonight!
24th Dec 2019, 3:27 PM
+1 but also ask the bus if they're are any pawn shops near by, or places that sell keys/can duplicate keys. I don't think we should stop by because we don't exactly have the cash or energy for it right now, but it's good to plan ahead.

It's possible that the key only worked because of a locked door/collectible key mechanic from Magic Mustachio. We should consider looking for other items from our games that could prove useful. If Crush Souls has anything resembling a health potion, we could try bringing a beverage of the same color, or mixing together analogues of the ingredients.

Obviously we need whatever the brand equivalent of Sunny D is in this universe!
23rd Dec 2019, 7:18 PM
It's possible that the library might have free games to check out too. Unless this future is too capitalist dystopian for free games. So I vote library.

So I agree that we should go to the library, but I also think at some point we should check out the archives at the local tv station. They probably have archival footage going back decades (I know mine does) and if the house has a history *some* crazy local will have talked about it on tv at some point.

Versus Addersfield Misuschaqua, how much more elevated is this town? That may be the difference right there as the air is thinner (exhaustion quicker from stress, asleep at the time or not) and less radiation enriched than her previous residence. Also may be due to a negligible technological footprint that the Mondol people are trying to correct to corral the locals into obedience, like every other town they've chewed through.

Oh, and maybe we could buy a pair of pajamas with lots and lots of pockets?
24th Dec 2019, 2:51 PM
+1 that's HILARIOUS and good at the same time. If only we could think of what to fill those pockets with.
24th Dec 2019, 3:42 PM
I would do that today but it seems like a great idea.
24th Dec 2019, 4:29 PM
We need to eventually find a large box we can use to make a box fort out of (or possibly a box-mecha/box-armor). Being silly on purpose can be cathartic.

should get back to normal after that though
