Open some barrels

Open some barrels
You think about it.

You really think about it.

...But in the end, you decide the maintenance tunnel will have to wait. It's been nearly a week and you ARE going to find out what the deal with the god damn barrels is.

You head back upstairs and down the hall, Cici following with the toolbox.

You open the door to the room with all the barrels in it.

"Shoot one of those barrels?"

"Sure!" Cici flutters forward, and launches an arrow.

...Which misses.

Followed by another, which also misses.

Followed by a third, which misses the top of the barrel Cici was aiming at but manages to hit the middle of a barrel toward the back. You note that (aside from firing in a wide, inaccurate spray) Cici's arrows don't seem to burn or phase through objects as much as they pierce--they pretty much act solid, like a heated hard light construct rather than a laser beam.

The arrow pierces through the barrel; what comes rushing out is...

"Is that piss?," you immediately ask.

"If your pee looks like that," Cici replies, "you need to see a doctor."

The liquid is very yellow. Like faintly luminescent gold, slightly dirty.

It really doesn't look like urine, but it's yellow liquid and you are a child and it's all you can think of. It's closer to like... mac and cheese sauce, though. Like if someone made mac and cheese flavored water, an idea almost as gross as a barrel full of piss would be. It even has that kind of surreal shimmering quality that macaroni and cheese has in the commercials but never in real life.

You use the knife end of your polearm to pry the lid off another barrel.

Hooray! You discovered more of that sweet murky gold.

"Maybe it's..." you're just spitballing here, "some kind of potion...?"

"Please don't drink the pee potion," Cici demands.

You laugh, just a little. "What happened to you can't do this in real life, Plaire, kick its ass?"

"That was about surfing, which is cool and good," Cici informs you. "This is about drinking yellow liquids you found in a barrel, which is just nasty."

. . .

"...It is stocked right in front of the boss room," you point out.

"Plaire."

"And I still think there has to be a way to regain mana--"

"Plaire."

I'm sorry that this, of all pages, is the Friday page

Considering that everyone wants to drink the piss water, I'd say that this page was a resounding success. Thank you for your work and effort! ^_^

Inspect the liquid. Smell it. Examine its viscosity. Rub a very small amount of it on our skin and wait. If this causes no ill effects, and there is nothing suspicious about the properties, than sample a very small amount of it, and wait again.

Also: test how much weight Cici can handle. See if she can lift us up.

+1. Plaice is right, this stuff makes more game sense as a potion than as a poison, but that’s no excuse for poor testing procedures. Take appropriate precautions, but do try the yellow stuff.

+1, also to testing Cici's strength. See if Cici can shoot through the boss door before we open it. Target the hinges. If we can take out the door, then we could have Cici attack the wall from behind while we fight from the front.

Also, if this IS a mana potion, then we should spam fireballs at the doors and see if we can break them. If we can, we could flank Father Warden when the fight starts by having Cici hang outside the doors until he drops.

+1 with amendments. This being a Souls-type game, I can see two other possible uses for this, and I recommend my amendments before any tests that involve skin contact or consumption:

1) Combustible: Soak a small expendable object (such as any debris close-by) in the liquid, then attempt to ignite it with vigorous actions (striking, throwing, so on)
2) Weapon Enhancement: Coat a weapon-like object (not your main weapon) with the liquid, then see if its performance has increased/decreased in any way.

Experimentally touch the yellow water with... an expendable extremity. The back of a pinky knuckle, perhaps.

Whether we drink it or not, we might be able to float down the maintenance tunnel in an emptied barrel. ...But maybe not today; we have an evil dad wall to vanquish.

More like try dipping something inanimate in it first, like the very tip of the blunt end of the polearm, before putting any part of our body in it.

+1 to sticking something into it before touching it.

Yellow tends to be the color of a stamina potion. ... That said dip a finger to give it a sniff and maybe a taste it.
That said if it is piss it'd smell kinda rank and acrid almost immediately after you cracked open the barrel.

A Sewer smell and all that.

Actually, it's probably water. The sky is yellow too, and I remember from science class that the sky is blue because of all the water particles in it... Or something.
Anyway drink the piss, Dave. It's just like that movie. Just like it.
Except our friends are trying to stop us instead of goading us on.
Anyway, drink the piss.
13th Jun 2020, 12:59 AM
Ooh, good point. I mean, the sky looks blue because of Rayleigh scattering, not water content, but Plaire and Cici aren’t in the real world. The color yellow might have entirely different connotations here.

13th Jun 2020, 1:17 AM
Does it smell sweet ? Could be mead/hydromel.
... could also be oil.

Test the crap out of the weird fluid. Grab a torch and check its flammability/smoke generation (molotovs could be good for DOT, but not if they fill the boss room with smoke).
13th Jun 2020, 3:23 AM
Plaire might want to move a barrel out to the hall before setting it on fire, though...

Snervalton
+1 to moving the barrel out to the hall it we set it on fire

Edit: IF we set it on fire
14th Jun 2020, 4:31 AM
Yeah, I should have precised - check the flammability of a small sample. Coat the end of the polearm, shake over the ground into a small puddle and test with that.
13th Jun 2020, 3:58 AM
Shame we don't have a bottle, could store some to throw at a monster to see what happens.

...Suppose it is near a church of sorts, some kind of weird wine maybe?
13th Jun 2020, 4:10 AM
See how Cici's current form reacts to the fluid after testing it. Considering it's golden nature and her divine attribute, it might benefit her. Cause game logic.
13th Jun 2020, 5:00 AM
But wait. Cici doesn't have a mouth right now. How can she drink it?

...pour it into her shell, maybe?
13th Jun 2020, 9:42 PM
Yeah, I was wondering how close the liquid would be in colour to Cici's arrows. Like, if we tried opening the barrels with Kate, it might be a different liquid the colour of her flames. I'm going to say it's *probably* not something only for our allies, given the sheer number of barrels, but we should consider the possibility.

The minecraft potion of fire resistance is kinda yellow so I say drink the piss water

or like test it out a bit or waft it to test the smell, those sort of stuff
13th Jun 2020, 9:19 AM
BJBlack
This stuff might be connected to The God That Hungers, also associated with the color yellow (but also gold and orange). So, my first theory is that It is constantly drooling on the dungeon, and some of this stuff gets inside. But it's harmful to simply dump in the sewers, so it has to be collected and stored in barrels.

Following this theory, the stuff is probably harmful, at least in this state. If Player later gets the ability to craft potions, it might be valuable as an ingredient, and she'd be doing good for her house by neutralizing hazardous materials.

In any case, this dungeon has given her little reason to think that a super-abundance of healing and/or buffing potion would just be sitting around all over the place.

Nevertheless, Test the liquid's properties, but do not ingest it under any circumstances. And stay alert for pounding at the walls.

Drink the skeleton juice. Gain its powers.
13th Jun 2020, 11:53 AM
Run a few test. Dip the stick in no reaction put a little bit on your skin. Put some on the ground and ligth it(explosives?). And then drink a shot of the piss water.

I think before trying the liquid theres things we can do... like test with a torch if it is flammable. Pour some on the ground and light it up
15th Jun 2020, 3:53 PM
What would be in a dungeon filled with torches. Barrels of torch oil
